Hello,

My name is Hoang Anh. I am currently a Research Postdoctoral Fellow at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). I obtained my Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA) in 2023. My graduate research in Prof. E. James Petersson’s Laboratory of Chemical Biology focused on designing stabilized thioamide peptides as imaging and therapeutic agents. My research interest has always been at the interfaces of chemistry, biology, and medicine; I hope to utilize chemical biology and biochemical tools to tackle important biological questions and develop therapeutics. Check out my publications here (Google Scholar; ORCID).

Previously, I graduated from Macalester College (St. Paul, MN), with a double major in Chemistry (with Honors) and Biology, along with an Added Emphasis in Biochemistry. At Macalester, I conducted research in Organic Chemistry with Prof. Ronald Brisbois and in Bioinorganic Chemistry with Prof. Kathryn Splan.

Besides scientific research, I am passionate about teaching and mentoring. I have tutored and assisted teaching multiple courses at Macalester, UPenn, and beyond. Read more about my teaching & mentoring experience here.

I am committed to serving the community and passionate about advocacy works. Read more about my service and advocacy works here.

Beyond science and my professional life, I enjoy taking long walks, having a good conversation, reading, playing the piano, listening to different genres of music, writing short play scripts/poems, watching TV shows, capturing the moment through my lenses (photography), and exploring different ethnic cuisines.
